Alex Jacob

Head Roaster & Community Educator, Ascension Coffee Roasters
United States

Alex Jacob is the Head Roaster and Community Educator for Ascension Coffee Roasters and founder of Vital Coffee Roasters. He holds two master’s degrees in Public Health and Public Administration with a focus in healthcare, and is a licensed Q Grader. His passion for coffee began as a hobby and later developed into positions as a barista and roasting assistant during graduate school. It was out of a desire to combine his passions for community impact and coffee that he eventually decided to change careers and leave the world of healthcare behind. Alex’s aspirations led him to seek ways to better understand the coffee supply chain and how to use coffee as a method for impact. This path of continuous learning and community-focused development is what led him to join The Chain Collaborative as a Coffee Sustainability Fellow in 2025, becoming a board member in 2026.
