Deaton Pigot
Deaton Pigot began his lifelong journey in coffee in 1994, working weekends as a barista in his hometown of Orange, NSW, Australia. After a decade in Australian hospitality honing his craft, he took his skills abroad in 2004. Now, in 2025, Deaton celebrates 20 years as a coffee roaster.
His career has spanned continents and some of the world’s most respected coffee companies:
- Bewley’s of Ireland (2005), where he first learned to roast coffee
- Intelligentsia Coffee, Los Angeles (2007) as a Roaster and Quality Control Specialist
- Toby’s Estate Coffee in Singapore and NYC (2010) as Operations Manager and Green Coffee Buyer
- Founder of Tectonic Coffee (2016), based in Los Angeles, California
Along the way, Deaton coached and roasted coffee for both USA and Regional Barista Champions (2008, 2009), served as a National Barista Competition judge (Canada and USA), and became the second-ever Australian to earn a Q Grader license. He has also served as a Cup of Excellence judge five times internationally.
Today, Tectonic Coffee operates a thriving café in West Hollywood and is on track to roast 150,000 lbs of coffee in 2025. The company focuses on partnership-based sourcing, precision roasting, and equipping wholesale partners and operators with tailored education, operational insight, and shared values to drive growth and consistency.
