Joseph Nazir

Founder/Owner/Prisoner, Tōv

Joseph started his coffee journey in 2005 after earning a bachelor of science degree in engineering. After finding his way to San Francisco and back to Portland, Joseph acquired his entrepreneurship thinking while having been immersed in the fast-paced, sales-driven, high-tech environment of the Bay Area. He was out to combine his engineering skills with the love of coffee by opening up a one-of-a-kind café. Joseph noticed there was a type of coffee ambiance and beverages that were missing in the Portland coffee market. Maximizing on Portland’s food cart scene and overcoming the problem of the lack of funds, Joseph was able to open up his first café inside of a refurbished English double-decker bus. Tōv became Portland’s first Egyptian café and first coffee bus established in 2015 by thinking outside the box and exploring uncharted territories. Joseph had to overcome high-priced buildouts, sustaining a positive cash flow, and penetrating Portland’s well renowned specialty coffee scene. By his relentless work ethic and aptitude for learning everything about coffee, Joseph began to roast his coffee in 2022 and despite COVID and numerous other oppositions, Joseph found a home for Tōv on Hawthorne Blvd in what’s considered to be Portland’s Southeast Living Room. This August marks the 10th anniversary for Tōv. Joseph’s future goals are to continue serving the community of Hawthorne Blvd, offering a safe place to explore, inspire, and rejuvenate.
